Improving Accessibility and Research (RDS)
Dr Ross discussed how we are working on improving accessibility.
Some of the items we are looking at, is the way the patients register at the practice. Dr Ross showed a slide which provides more information on what we doing to improve accessibility. Most of us would have filled out a paper registration to register at our practices and now we have the online registration option.
Dr Ross shared how you can change the lay of the font and lay out to make it easy for one to read, such as changing the space, colour contract, by clicking on the accessibility menu.
On the Staunton Website and on the NHS UK website you can register with us. On the Staunton website you can register online, there is also a QR Code that a new potential patients can scan from your phone to register. It provides different languages such as Turkish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Italian and French and the other languages that pertain to our patient demographics. The form has been made easier for patients who do not speak English to access and register. One of the benefits of having this option is that it has helped with automation, and this will allow our staff to processing the registrations quicker.
Chronic Kidney Disease
Dr Ross thanked L.R for reviewing and providing feedback of a lay description of the research proposal for osteoporosis and kidney disease. Dr Ross explained the rationale for this type of research being conducted is since frequently people do not get diagnosed with CKD until it is picked up as result of testing in a hospital. Dr Ross shared the chronic kidney disease pathway slide.
The area the research team is focusing on is the technology to scan patient files, finding diagnostic reports showing decline in the eGFR (under CKD threshold). This is where insights from these files have not been coded. The patient is flagged to the clinician for immediate review with details as to why the patient has been Identified. To do this research patient data is needed. A data sharing agreement will be needed from the patient, and patients can opt out should they not want their data shared for research & planning.
Quarry is the technology that is going to be used to find patients with undiagnosed kidney disease and undiagnosed Osteoporosis. A new data sharing agreement will be created with the provider of the technology Quantum. As Caldicott guardian, Dr Ross stated it is his role is to ensure that patient data is looked after and ensure it is used correctly.
The website that provides more information about patient data sharing is here.
Some of the PPG members have shown enthusiasm about the research and he asked if anyone had any questions as to how they are going to use the data to deliver the research based what he has shared.
Practice Report (PI)
Phone data
Our percentage of answered calls is improving each month. Our patients are utilising the callback system, which is working very well, rather than have patients queue they have the option to opt in for a callback.
Our focus is to improve our average queue time. This will reduce the time patients have to spend waiting in the queue to be answered.
Staffing
We had a new staff join our clinical team; Physicians Associate Fadime Oztas started in September. Fadime has worked with us as a locum for more than 18 months. She speaks Turkish and we book some of our Turkish patients with her to improve their care within the practice. She is a good addition to the team, and she will be working on Tuesdays and Fridays.
We have a new Salaried GP, Dr Chee Tang started in September as well. She is joins us from a local surgery and will work Tuesday and Friday as well. We are pleased to have permanent clinical staff, and this allows for continuity of care.
My line manager has changed, Sioux Thorn has been transferred to another Hurley Surgery and my Line Manager is now Paige Sharpe.
We also working on providing additional training for our locum reception staff, as some of you have witnessed poor customer service from some of them. We are focusing on our front-line staff now that our clinical staffing is completed. I appreciate the feedback you have provided with regards the locum staff’s customer service skills.
Digital day at Staunton - Wednesday October 30th from 9am to 1pm
we are planning another digital day at Staunton. This is to get more patients signed up on NHS App, Patient Access app, and show patients how to access eConsult. Show patients how to order medication and view their test results or notes. The Haringey Digital inclusion team has offered to help us with this project.
